Artist Wong Chi-yung’s The Tides of Time is a scenographic installation that explores the fundamental nature of time. Inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls, the artist draws on personal experiences of loss and life’s cyclical rhythms. Using the imagery of tides, Wong poetically alludes to the dialectical relationship between nature’s eternal rhythm and the fleeting impermanence of human life. Within the installation, thousands of fine threads are woven into a complex network, symbolising that all things have no clear beginning or end. Through a highly poetic and immersive spatial design, the work invites viewers on a dream-like artistic journey to contemplate: in the current of human experience, how do we reflect on time, memory, and the subtle.

Like the rhythm of tides, life moves in waves—rising, receding, and returning in endless motion. Different rhythms of our lives encourage us to pause, reflect, and embrace the currents that carry us forward. The Tides of Time invites us to reflect how each moment connects past, present, and future, exploring the profound relationship between time and life—how we experience it and how it shapes the human journey. There are no clear beginnings or ends—only interconnectedness, a continuum where every moment flows into the next, shaping the eternal tides of life.
Hong Kong Public Libraries has selected 31 e-books that explore how we manage our time, cultivate meaningful relationships, and embrace the interconnection of life. These books remind us that the flow of time shapes every heartbeat, memory, and transformation, guiding us through the tides of our time.
